There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
1 Corinthians 10:13 KJV
I have heard people say all my life that God will not put more on me than what I can bear. I believe this it the truth, but it is not scripture. What the bible teaches us is that he will not allow us to be tempted more than we can resist so that we can bear the temptation.
We need to understand that it is not God that puts our burdens upon us, it is not God that causes our pain, it is not God that causes death and sickness. Sin is the cause of all these things that are so heavy that sometimes we can't bear them. Now let us talk about this scripture. This scripture is so completely taken out of context. First of all, it is used as the reference point for the saying that God will not put more on you than you can bear, but you need to remember that temptation is not the same as grief or a burden to heavy to carry. This scripture is talking about temptation. The second thing to remember is that scripture teaches us in James 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: Satan is the one that is tempting you with evil. Satan is the one that whispers in your ear that nobody will ever know. Satan is the one that causes you to lust after someone that is not your own spouse. Satan is the one that says just try it, you won't become addicted. Are you beginning to see? Satan is the one doing all the tempting. The scripture in Corinthians is letting us know that if we put our faith and trust in God that he will see us through any temptation that is put upon us. If you are a child of God, he will take care of you the same as he took care of Job, the same as he took care of Moses and all his other children. Satan caused all of your problems. I urge you today to trust in God. Live for him, put your faith in him and he will always make a way for you. Satan may tempt you with sin, but God will make a way of escape.
This world is full of sin and there is pleasure is sin which is what makes it a temptation. Sin comes in many shapes and forms. Moses was raised up as a prince in the house of Pharoah and had it all, but he saw the sin against his people and God made a way for him to escape.
Hebrews 11: 24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter;
25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;
Moses found the right path to God and so can each and every one of you that chooses Christ over sin. It's not always easy but to resist is to lay up treasures in heaven. Having pleasures in this world will end with our death, but if we store them up in heaven, we can enjoy them for eternity!
Matthew 6:19-21
19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
